What is Ethereum?
Summary
- Ethereum is technology building apps, w/o controlling of central authority
What is a cryptocurrency?
- Crypto: new form of digital money, powered by cryptography
- It is different from normal bank, because there is no middle man –> but how? 🤨
- middle man: central authority that intervenes a tx between the sender and recipient
- they surveil, censor, revert
- middle man: central authority that intervenes a tx between the sender and recipient
- However, it directly connects sender and recipient w/o having to deal w/ any central authority
- Nobody else will have access to your funds
- Nobody can tell you what services you can use
What is a blockchain
- Blockchain is a DB of tx
- we can only ‘add’ data, but cannot remove.
Why is it called crpytocurrency
- Blokchain uses cryptographic techniques to ensure that funds are safe.
What is the difference between Ethereum and Bitcoin
- Both provide digital money w/o central authority
- Ethereum is programmable: can build and deploy –> but how? 🤨
What can Ethereum do?
- Banking for everyone: only needs internet connection
- A more private internet: we don’t have to provide all your personal detail
- A peer-to-peer network: intermediary company is not needed
- Censorthip-resistant
- Commerce guarantees: secure + rules that won’t change
- All products are composable: all apps are built on the same blockchain, they share global state
Why would I use Ethereum
- Cheaper and faster crossborder payments: many stable coins are built on Ethereum network
- The quickest help in times of crisis: such as crisis, war, etc –> do they really use it? 🤨
- Empowering creators: platforms such as Spotify, Youtube, and Etsy
- Empowering gamers: incentivized by in-game tokens for real money. That token is built on Ethereum network.
